    South Indian Pakoda

    Published: Jul 12, 2015 · by Nisha

I am not sure if I can call this as south Indian pakodas. But this is what my mom makes every weekend, as our evening snack. This is slightly different from the regular onion pakoras, therefore to distinguish it from the regular ones, I call this as South Indian. This is my absolute favourite. I can have this for all three meals of the day and still crave for some more.

A no time consuming snack that can be made so quick and its quite irresistible.

    South Indian Pakoda

    Onion Pakodas, south Indian style

    Prep Time: 10 Mins | Cook Time: 15 Mins | Total Time: 25 Mins | Serves: 2

    Ingredients

    • 1 Cup Besan | Gram flour
    • 3 tablespoon Arisi Mavu | Rice flour
    • Few cashew nuts
    • Few Curry leaves, torn
    • ½ Cup chopped Onions
    • Few Coriander leaves
    • ½ teaspoon Red chilli powder
    • 3 tablespoon Hot oil
    • Oil for deep frying
    Instructions

    1. Take everything in a bowl (except oil). Mix it well.  Check for salt and spice. Adjust if needed.
    2. Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying.  Once it is hot, add few tbsps to the mix.
    3. Carefully without burning your hand, mix it. Add water and make it into a thick paste.
    4. Drop few at a time in hot oil. Deep fry until it becomes golden brown.
    5. Drain in a paper towel and serve warm.

    Notes

    1. Addition of hot oil makes it very crisp.
    2. Also baking soda gives it a slightly porous texture. But it is purely optional. Even if you skip it there is no change in taste.
    3. This is a snack by itself. No need of any ketchup or condiment.
